Mammoth Dunes
Mammoth Dunes is the second 18-hole championship course to open at Sand Valley Resort. The course opened to the public in the spring of 2018 to a high level of anticipation. Even as the Sand Valley Course was voted Top New Course in the world in 2017 by Golf Digest, there was always a sense of “what’s next?”. Much of that had to do with David McLay-Kidd being at the helm of the design team for Mammoth Dunes.
The result is something completely remarkable. I cannot think of another course I have ever played quite like it. And never has there been a more appropriate course name…as Mammoth Dunes has some of the most vast oceans of sand on any golf course. Some of the fairways are so wide it is hard to comprehend that you are on an actual golf course. You could play the same hole a dozen times and take a different approach each time you step up to the tee. It did not surprise me a bit when Mammoth Dunes was named Top New Course for 2018 by Golf Magazine. The course is just pure fun and is a must play if you make it up to that region.
